CHINS Program Descriptions
CHINS Workbook – The CHINS workbook is given to all children over the age of 10 when they sign a CHINS Diversion Agreement. It addresses topics such as making friends, dating, drugs/alcohol, social media, etc. The workbook encourages children to think about how to manage feelings of anger, resentment, hostility, and frustration so that they are equipped to handle those emotions appropriately in the future. It also helps children to identify some of their positive traits and evaluate areas for potential development. The workbook has real-world exercises to help overcome difficult situations that children may face at school, at home, or in the community.
CHIN-UP is a bimonthly program empowering our youth to develop a vision for their future. The goal is to find the “what” that motivates them. In CHIN-UP, the youth will learn the importance of education, passion, and planning. They will spend time with mentors from the community learning how to cook, fix things around the house, handle money, and a lot more. Leaders from local businesses will speak to the youth. Youth will learn how various careers can enrich their life. The CHIN-UP events are held on the first Thursday or second Tuesday (depending on the class the youth is assigned) at The Children's Haven.
